Do any necessary research with the school district to determine assignment policies and to locate district maps. Remember, magnet and charter schools may have different admission policies than traditional neighborhood schools. - 3

Search national or local real estate sites for available homes. Realtor.com has information on homes for rent or sale customized by zip code, town, price, and more. Individual property listings should provide school information. For a more locally customized search, many local offices of national real estate firms offer searches by school district and even school. - 4

Locate homes by using online mapping tools. Using Mapquest or Google Maps, type in the school's address. The map will show a marker for the location. If you are using Google maps, click "More" and then click "Real Estate" in the drop-down box to see listings close to the school. With Mapquest you can search in the opposite way: input the address of a house you are interested in, then look for nearby schools using the "Advanced Search" feature, refining your search by city, type of school, and grade level.
